Tradition is felt a little everywhere, it's good there, inside or outside, in the company of great food and good wines.
It's the old Apolo café, founded in 1945, that created a great tradition of quality, with varied clientele. It is one of the most famous Portuguese cafés and even got the Portuguese postage stamp regarding historic cafés in Portugal. The society of this emblematic space of Funchal is composed of several people, some of whom are connected to the area of Tourism. In the last 3 years, this space has undergone remodelling works, however keeping all the beautiful original design, which made it a restaurant in which even the name has remained, since its birth until today.
With a large room and a terrace, also very spacious, right there, in front of the main church. You can enjoy a lot of appetisers, but a very complete menu offers a wide variety of dishes, including traditional and some bolder ones. Everything is based on high quality products, a faultless preparation and impeccable service.
The wine list, quite complete, integrates many Madeira wines, between still and liqueur. It is the best tribute you can make to the history of this ancient café.
